The Celestia Citizen (“Harvest Moon” Edition)
Hello, my fellow Celestians! And welcome to another edition of the Celestia Citizen!
For this month’s theme, to start off the autumn season for 2025, it was a challenge to find a theme to dive into that had not been explored as of yet. However, I happened upon a piece of news that motivated me to do an edition regarding this year’s Harvest Moon.
Aside from being a name for a video game franchise, and a song sung by Neil Young (and a different song sang by Blue Oyster Cult, which is a favorite of mine), it is a term for the first full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (typically around September 22nd to 23rd). Sometimes, it is a full moon in September that is called this, and sometimes it is in October.
As to the Harvest Moon’s purpose, the moon’s natural light during nightfall aided farmers with their harvests, especially during the shorter autumn days. Farmers would work until nightfall, and use the extra hours at night offered by the moon’s light to assist with their harvest. And the harvest moon particularly comes around the same time for several nights in a row, allowing farmers to time their work accordingly.
The Harvest Moon will be achieved just before midnight EST on Monday, October 6th. And it is expected to bring a reddish hue to its appearance.
What makes this year’s Harvest Moon special is that it will also be a “supermoon,” which is when the moon will appear larger and brighter than usual, achieving a distance 10% closer to the Earth. However, the moon will be at its closest and largest in appearance (but not totally full) on Wednesday, October 8th.
The night of the 8th will also be when a meteor shower (the annual Draconid event) will occur, generating up to 10 meteors per hour (visibility of them will be impacted by the moon, however).
If you do not find yourself preoccupied by anything during the first full week of October, use the opportunity to enjoy this rare moon and what its natural beauty has to offer.

Shark Week – Over the course of seven days, ten intrepid fisherfolk joined various shark-killing events, won prizes, and participated in a grand end raffle during Celestia Shark Week. The winners of the final raffle were :
